Here Comes the Pink!

Being in a household of all men for approximately 40 years has skewed my thinking, somewhat, on how to communicate with people/women/girls/"little" girls. Since the Allen's (aka our family) now have a beautiful little "woman" in our midst, I figured I needed to get to work on building a "girl" relationship with our little Emery. When Ems came into this world, I knew our family would be changed forever. This beautiful and adorable little bundle of joy and energy would have everyone wrapped around their little finger. I knew I would be too...I just had to figure out how to relate to the "girly" things our Ems would one day want to do. Since I never was a "girly girl", I never really thought about those kind of things, but thought I would have plenty of time to get to watch Ems grow into this "girl" and grow with her. Little did I know she would come out of the womb...let's say...PINK! Pink and running...pink and determined...pink and full of self confidence...Pink and a mind of her own. That's my kind of girl!
A couple of weeks ago I had Ems spend the night, without her big brother Huston, to practice for this year's weekly, Tuesday overnight trips to Lovey & Jim's before Bible Study on Wednesdays. She came on a Tuesday evening and Jim and I took her to dinner at EZ's. Of course, Ems doesn't like to sit in her chair and wiggles the entire time, spilling her glass of milk all over the floor and onto Jim's perfectly polished shoes. (good move Ems...break him in early!...again...my kind of girl!)
That evening, Ems played and watched a movie in the upstairs loft. She loves sitting in what Huston calls "his sofa" (a bean bag chair bought at Walmart), with her two babies, covered with a blanket. The next morning, I took her to Little Gym and was her assistant "coach" helping her "tumble". She is actually very good considering she's only two years old. She can walk on the balance beam, do a forward and backward roll with help, and hang from a bar like a monkey without help. Again...a girl of my own heart. I can't wait till she turns five...Lovey is going to begin interviewing ballet teachers for my little "pink" angel. I just KNOW she will be a prima ballerina at age ten!!!!
After all....she is MY granddaughter!
